WHO WE ARE

Better Futures Minnesota supports a population of disenfranchised men who have been impacted by the criminal justice system, helping them rebuild their lives and create their own success stories. They are employed in industry-leading deconstruction and waste diversion business lines that help Minnesota transition to a circular economy.

Our mission is to transform the costly systems that damage our communities and envision a future where economic opportunity and environmental justice replace a harmful system that hinders opportunities, destroys lives, and pollutes our environment.

Impact Summary

We measure our success through the lives we help rebuild, the materials we reclaim, and the emissions we prevent. Our waste diversion business lines divert valuable resources from the landfill, reducing environmental harm while creating hands-on opportunities for men to rebuild their futures. Revenue from our business lines sustains this mission and fuels our continued growth across Minnesota's circular economy. 

OUR MODEL

Our four model combines the benefits of a living wage-paying job with supports and guidance to help men succeed in our workplace and beyond. 

Phase 1: Stabilization

THE WORK WE DO

We are a trusted leader in the state's reuse and building material recovery space, with 6 Business Lines created to help Minnesota move away from a throwaway economy. 

Deconstruction

Unlike demolition, deconstruction carefully removes a house or building so that materials are recycled, repurposed, or reused instead of being sent to a landfill.

Curbside Collection

Our team partners with the cities of Bloomington and Columbia Heights to ensure that bulky items and yard waste are collected and disposed of responsibly, diverting as much material as possible from landfills through recycling, repurposing, and environmentally conscious practices.

Property Services


Our teams provide year-round building maintenance, lawn care, snow removal, and commercial office cleaning services to businesses, schools, and local governments.

Appliance Recycling

Appliance recycling at Better Futures provides job training while generating income and a positive environmental impact.
If you have appliances or other materials to donate or recycle, please check out our Accept/Do Not Accept guidelines below before scheduling a drop-off.

Please note our fee for appliance recycling is $35 per item.

Transfer Station

At the Becker and Cambridge facilities, our team searches for salvageable items that would otherwise end up in the landfill, restoring and repurposing them to create a ReUse store right at the transfer station where the community can purchase quality, affordable materials.

We carry salvaged building materials such as flooring, tiles, lumber, cabinetry, appliances, lighting, tubs, and more, at a fraction of retail cost for sale in-store and online.
