Our civilization has a huge problem with waste. Most of us don’t know what to do with it, so it continues to pile up in landfills. While that used to be an acceptable practice, times are changing. Whether we are paying attention or not, the fact is waste in landfills is breaking down, emitting greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, seeping pollutants into our soil and ground water, and disturbing our ecosystems as we continually bulldoze over our landfills in order to make room for more waste. By continuing this cycle of produce-consume-dispose, it seems a logical conclusion that the Earth could eventually be covered in garbage. So how can we avoid this? One word – Diversion.
Better Futures Minnesota is at the forefront of waste diversion by not only recycling, reusing and repurposing construction waste, we partnered with Becker County to establish a reuse retail operation at the County transfer station.
